Length

Contributory Aged (Sub 864) is a permanent visa that allows you to stay in Australia indefinitely. It is designed for people of pension age or over who have significant financial resources from either themselves or their families. This visa offers many benefits, including freedom of movement between states, access to government services, and the ability to apply for citizenship after four years of residency in Australia.

Requirements

To be eligible for this pension, the individual must have a child who is a settled Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident, or eligible New Zealand citizen and who is old enough to qualify. The minimum age requirement for an eligible child varies depending on their relationship with the pensioner; it may be either 16 or 15 years of age if they are still attending secondary school.

In addition to meeting this eligibility criterion, applicants must also meet other conditions, such as having resided in Australia continuously for at least 10 years since turning 16 and having no assets worth more than $250,000 outside of the family home.

Processing time

Applications for this visa are subject to capping and queuing, meaning that they may be delayed due to capacity issues or other matters beyond the control of applicants and their sponsors. Consequently, it is difficult to estimate when an application will be processed as there is no guarantee of a successful outcome.

It should also be noted that applications may take longer if additional information or documents are required by the Department of Home Affairs during processing. Therefore, it is important to ensure all necessary documentation is provided with your initial application to minimize potential delays.
