Who can apply

You can apply for this visa from inside or outside of Australia, and your application will be assessed by the Department of Home Affairs. The decision regarding whether or not you are successful with your application can come while you are still abroad or already residing in Australia.

However, it is important to note that if you apply for this visa, you cannot be in immigration clearance when we make our decision about your application outcome. You must either be inside or outside Australian borders when both submitting your application form and receiving the results of our assessment process.

Requirements

To be eligible for this visa, applicants must first submit an expression of interest through SkillSelect and receive a nomination from a State or Territory government agency before being invited to apply. It is important for prospective candidates to understand what is required of them and how their application will be assessed.

  • Be between 18 and 44 years old.
  • Have a relevant occupation
  • Have proficient English skills.
  • Lodge an EOI, and have to be invited to apply.
  • Meet the health and character requirements.
  • Meet the points test pass mark of 65 points.
  • Have to be nominated by a state or territory government agency.

The skilled nominated (sub190) permanent residency visa allows successful applicants and their families to live, study and work in Australia on a permanent basis. With all of these requirements in place, applicants can begin their journey towards living and working Down Under permanently.

Visa Validity

Skilled Nominated (sub 190) is a permanent visa that enables you to stay in Australia indefinitely. This visa allows you to live, work and study in Australia with access to health care and social security benefits. It also gives you the right to apply for Australian citizenship if eligible.

This visa has a travel component attached, which expires 5 years after the date of the visa grant. This means once your visa has been granted, it will remain valid for five years from that date, allowing you to leave and re-enter Australia multiple times during this period without needing any additional visas or travel documents. After the five-year period is over, this travel component may be renewed by the Department of Home Affairs.

Costs

The costs associated with this visa depend on the number of applicants and their individual circumstances, but the main applicant must pay AUD4,240 in order to be eligible. Furthermore, each family member applying with you must also pay a separate charge. Prospective applicants may need to be aware of an extra charge that may apply if they are 18 years old or older and have less than functional English. This charge is called the second installment.
